A Glimpse of Heaven

15 78 19 web OK, I have often wondered what heaven will be like. Will I like it? Will I get bored there? Will my new body be hot? Real meaningless stuff for thought. Tonight I had a pretty good indication of what it will be like and I can’t wait.

So what is heaven like, you might be wondering? Well it’s not boring, at least not for me. What I saw tonight was a great time talking about life and God and people and sharing those moments where you really got it and those where you really didn’t. If you’re not one of the four people at my house tonight then you’re in the dark.

Actually what happened is a guy known as Gman to the blogosphere and Grant English to others with his wife Amy (sorry I don’t know your aliases) came over for a visit. We had no previous relationship apart from our blogs which we check out a good bit and peeing in the shower (not together). What a great night! We talked about each other’s stories, encouraged each other and just hung out. It always amazes/humbles me when I get the opportunity to meet people for the first time and see how God works in other lives to touch my own. It’s like God engineers these experiences just for me to be encouraged. That sounds very narcissistic, but I feel so blessed from the time that I look at it very selfishly.

And that is what I think heaven must be like. Meeting people all the time and seeing their lives and how they struggled like you did and how they were redeemed like you were and how it all works together in some mysterious way to one actual purpose that is so obvious that we miss it all the time. It’s also our part in the gospel of everyday life. We become the gospel to others through the telling of the good news only possible through a Savior that lives in our lives and makes these stories real.

OK, enough of my elation, waxing eloquent, sounding very cheesy and preaching. God really is good.

  1. I agree totally. On all points. Tonight felt like what real "community" is all about...ordained and predestined by God for our good and His glory. I, too, saw a glimpse of His goodness. To God be the glory!

  2. Aim and I got in the car, looked at the clock and went - oh my gosh - we just spent close to 4 hours with them and it felt rushed. "That was awesome." (In classic Tommy Boy form.) CS Lewis says that God gives us friends as a glimpse of Heaven. We had a blast and in honor of Cathy, I wanted to leave a novella as a comment.
